Coursework & Assessment Planner 2009 - 2011
   


ENGLISH ~ Various coursework tasks (20% written, 20% oral), mainly done in Year 10
LITERATURE ~ Various coursework tasks (30% written), mainly in Year 10
DEADLINE FOR COURSEWORK FOLDERS CONTAINING 5 TASKS END OF AUGUST 2010.


MATHEMATICS ~ No coursework
Module 3 Exam – 13th November 2009 – A.M. [Year10]
Module 1 Exam – 2nd March 2010 – P.M. [Year10]
Module 5 Exam – June 2010 – P.M. [Year11]


SCIENCE ~ ISA’s replaces the old style coursework. An ISA is done in Physics, Biology & Chemistry during lessons in June/July 2010 and forms 25% of the Year 10 (Core Science) GCSE.
The same happens in Year 11, three ISA’s spread out during the year from January to March/ April.
GCSE Exams for the majority of students are taken in March & June [Year 10] and in June [Year 11]
SEPARATE SCIENCES ~ ISA’s are done at the same times but there is an extra exam in January of Year 11


BTEC COURSE ~ Entirely assessed in lessons. Deadlines to follow later.


HISTORY ~ Coursework –Controlled assessment worth 25%
This will be completed during 8 hours of classwork in Year 11.


MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES ~ No coursework
Three controlled written assessments are taken at various times during the 2 years. When they are taken will depend on the teachers and the subject (German or French).
These 3 pieces form the writing part of the GCSE assessment.


BTEC BUSINESS ~ This subject is 100% coursework. Three units are completed.
Unit 1 – Exploring Business Purposes – Year 10
Unit 4 – Business Communication – ½ completed in Yr 10 & ½ in Yr 11
Unit 5 People in Business – Year 11


BTEC is equivalent to 2 GCSEs


GEOGRAPHY ~ Coursework –Llangollen Fieldwork – worth 25%
Starts at the end of September and finished by December before the mocks.


I.C.T. ~ This subject is 100% coursework. Deadlines vary, teachers will contact home if there are any problems arising.


ART ~ Ongoing coursework throughout Years 10 & 11 accounts for 60% of the mark. Coursework deadline will be in early March for Year 11 students.
The practical exam (worth 40% of the mark) will begin in late April for Year 11 students


PHYSICAL EDUCATION ~
Coursework – Personal Exercise Plan written in Year 10 and to be completed by the end of the year.


FOOD AND NUTRITION ~ Year 10 Coursework runs from May to July 2010 – worth 30%
Year 11 Coursework runs from January to March and is worth 40%


DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY ~ Resistant Materials exam project runs from the start of Year 10 to March of Year 11.


WORK EXPERIENCE ~ The last 2 full weeks of Year 10


DRAMA ~ Practical skills, knowledge and understanding are developed through Year 10 with the delivery of workshops, theatre reviews and portfolio work.
Paper One Assessment [Drama Exploration] (60%), takes place in Year 11 with two practical workshops and supporting portfolios taking place in the Autumn term.
Paper Two Assessment [Drama Performance] (40%) is in the form of a Drama presentation which takes place between March and May in Year 11. All dates for coursework deadlines, out of school rehearsals and examination dates will be published at the start of Year 11.


CITIZENSHIP ~ Active citizenship project written up in a controlled assessment.
Worth 60% of the mark.


RELIGIOUS STUDIES ~ All coursework is to be completed by the end of November. 2 GCSE exams in May and June at the end of Year 10. [The GCSE course is completed by the end of Year 10]
