Thank you for the interest you have shown in The Bishops' Blue Coat Church of England High School. We hope that our web site will give you and your child a clear picture of the qualities which make The Bishops' High School so special and distinctive and help you to see why it enjoys such a very good reputation.
This is a church school, not only in name but also in character. We are proud of its Christian foundation and ethos. The Bishops' High School is a medium sized school and we take delight in the close relationships which develop between pupils, staff and parents. The Christian family atmosphere which we foster helps our pupils to develop a sense of self worth and responsibility. We value the uniqueness of each child.
Our examination results are strong. In 2009 our pupils gained an excellent set of GCSE results, with 72% achieving 5 or more A* - C grades and 55% achieveing 5 or more A*-C grades including English and Maths. In the 6th Form 70% of grades obtained at A Level were A-C grades. The courses we offer are taught by well qualified, highly experienced and dedicated teachers. In addition to our academic strength and the quality of curriculum provision, we place a strong emphasis on individual care, nurture and support. This, together with the high standard of appearance and behaviour of our pupils, helps to explain the school's very good reputation and continuing popularity.
The Bishops' High School has an attractive campus and is a caring and orderly community; the atmosphere of calm and purposeful learning is frequently commented on by those who visit us. All our pupils and students are treated as individuals and we recognise their different abilities, aptitudes and interests. We aim to develop those personal attributes and to ensure that every pupil and student has a happy and rewarding time with us.
The Bishops' High School is a good and continually improving school and received very good reports from the most recent inspection in April 2008. We are at an exciting stage of our development with a rising standard of academic performance, a big investment in modern resources for learning and teaching and new accommodation. We enjoy and excellent reputation and are always heavily oversubscribed. We were redesignated a Specialist Science College status in 2008, and benefit from the exciting and innovative developments that this brings.
We are confident that our strengths, achievements and commitment to partnership with parents provide a firm foundation upon which to build your child's future. After reading our Prospectus and seeing the school we hope you will share our confidence.
